Islamabad (HRNW)- After the US agreed to a two-week ceasefire, there is a demand in Pakistan that the Pakistani government should now make serious diplomatic efforts for the release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
Political and social circles say that if the US has shown its willingness to accept a two-week ceasefire on the diplomatic efforts of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, then this is a clear proof of Pakistan’s global diplomatic weight. In such a situation, the government should use the same trust and influence to effectively raise the issue of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release.
According to public opinion, Army Chief Asim Munir and the Prime Minister should jointly make this humanitarian issue a priority, because Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s imprisonment is an emotional and sensitive matter for the Pakistani nation.
Citizens and social circles say that if Pakistan can play a role for peace at the global level, then vigorous diplomacy is possible even for the release of a Pakistani citizen. They demand that the government not waste this opportunity and take practical steps for the return of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
