Dubai/Tehran (HRNW)- As the ongoing tension in the Middle East enters its third week, Iran has issued a stark warning to citizens and expatriates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Statements by Iranian officials and Tehran University professor Seyyed Mohammad Marandi said that the UAE’s major ports, including Jebel Ali in Dubai, Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi, and Fujairah Port in Fujairah, are now “legitimate targets” for Iranian forces. Citizens have been instructed to immediately move away from these areas and civilian infrastructure near US military installations to avoid casualties in the event of any potential attack.
The threat from Iran comes after Tehran claimed that the United States had used UAE territory and ports to launch attacks on Iran’s most important oil terminal, Kharg Island. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has said it reserves the right to respond to attacks on its energy facilities and indicated that ports hosting US assets could be targeted.
Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed that it intercepted and destroyed nine ballistic missiles and 33 drones in the air today. However, some operations were temporarily suspended after debris from intercepted projectiles caused a fire at Fujairah Port. The rising tension has sparked concerns across global markets, with fears of higher oil prices and increased risks to maritime traffic in the Gulf.
