Karachi (HRNW): A civil court in Karachi has ordered the payment of Rs150 million in compensation to the parents of an eight-year-old girl who died after falling into an open sewer in Keamari.
The decision was announced by the Senior Civil Judge West at the City Court in Karachi in a compensation claim filed by the girl’s parents.
According to Advocate Farrukh Usman, the incident occurred in 2021 at Sher Muhammad Village, Mauripur Road, where eight-year-old Habiba had reportedly gone outside to play. Her body was recovered two days later from a sewer in the area whose cover was allegedly missing.
The girl’s parents had filed a compensation claim seeking Rs250 million in damages, with the Water and Sewerage Corporation and the Government of Sindh named as parties in the case.
The court has now ordered that Rs150 million be paid to the deceased child’s parents as compensation.
