Nunavut (HRNW)- Despite pressure from US President Donald Trump, France and Canada have officially opened their consulates in Greenland’s capital, Nunavut, signaling support and cooperation with Denmark. French Ambassador Christophe Parisot and Consul General Jean-Noël Poirier emphasized that the move reflects friendship and solidarity with Greenland and Denmark, rather than sending a message to the United States. On the same day, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Governor General Mary Simon inaugurated Canada’s consulate and raised the national flag. Global Affairs Canada highlighted centuries-old ties with Greenland and the shared Arctic maritime border. France announced its consulate in June 2025, while Canada had announced theirs in December 2024, both reinforcing diplomatic relations in the region.
