US and Iran Signal Potential Talks This Week Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Washington (HRNW) – Amid ongoing war threats and military build‑ups, the United States and Iran have finally shown a willingness to hold talks in an effort to ease tensions and avert conflict. A senior US official told media that negotiations could begin this week, with Turkey, Egypt and Qatar arranging a high‑level meeting where US President Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and a senior Iranian official are expected to initially meet.

Neither the United States nor Iran has officially confirmed the talks, and the agenda and venue have not yet been disclosed. Earlier, Iran’s president ordered the start of nuclear talks with the US, signaling possible diplomatic engagement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has previously stated that Tehran is willing to engage in fair negotiations focused on its nuclear program, but Tehran has stressed it will not negotiate on ballistic missiles or its support for proxy groups unless threats and coercion cease.

The possible talks come as the US has deployed naval forces and planned military exercises near the Persian Gulf, and President Trump has warned Iran that time for negotiation is limited, while Iran’s Supreme Leader has warned that any attack could trigger a regional war.
