ISLAMABAD (HRNW): The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a critical public advisory warning citizens that sharing unverified news or irresponsible posts on social media can lead to severe legal consequences. According to the NCCIA, a single wrong click or an unverified share is now a punishable offense, and users must ensure the absolute authenticity of any link, post, or news before circulating it. The agency clarified that spreading false information, misleading content, or baseless allegations against the superior judiciary and state institutions is a grave crime. Under Section 26-A of the PECA Act, individuals found guilty of disseminating fake news can face up to three years of imprisonment and a staggering fine of up to 2 million rupees. The NCCIA has urged the public to strictly avoid hate speech, rumors, and fabricated content, emphasizing that responsible and cautious use of social media is essential to maintaining a safe and positive digital environment. The agency reiterated that only by acting as responsible citizens can the internet be protected from the poison of misinformation.
