Tehran (HRNW)- A supertanker in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz reportedly came to a complete standstill after hitting two naval mines and catching fire, according to Iranian state television.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that the tanker had violated Iranian security regulations while attempting to pass through the strategic waterway. Iranian authorities did not disclose the vessel’s identity or provide information about the condition of its crew.
The IRGC warned that vessels violating security regulations in the Strait of Hormuz could face similar action and stressed that ships using the waterway must comply with regulations set by Iranian authorities.
The incident comes amid heightened international concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy supplies. Any significant disruption to shipping through the waterway could affect international oil supplies and prices.
