Karachi (HRNW)- The Sindh High Court has issued a written order on a petition concerning the Mir Raza Judicial Commission and the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), summoning senior provincial law officers to assist the court at the next hearing on August 31.
The court issued notices to the Advocate General Sindh, Prosecutor General Sindh and Deputy Attorney General. The written order raises questions about whether the court can directly order the formation of a JIT and whether it can supervise or alter the investigation process and submission of reports.
The petition filed by Mir Raza’s family alleges serious shortcomings in the investigation into his disappearance and death, including delays in securing the crime scene, recording witness statements and examining electronic evidence. The petition also challenges the initial suicide narrative, citing subsequent medico-legal findings and a special medical board’s examination.
The family has requested an independent and comprehensive investigation through a JIT comprising officers who had no previous involvement in the case. The court said it will examine whether it has the authority to order the formation of a JIT and issue directions concerning the ongoing investigation.
