Lahore (HRNW) — Twelve Pakistani young men have been kidnapped in Iran after human smugglers lured them with false promises of sending them to Europe. The smugglers tortured the victims, sent videos of the abuse to their families and are now demanding a hefty ransom.
According to the FIA Lahore Zone spokesperson, the 12 youths had paid money to be sent to Italy via Iran. A case has been registered and raids are underway to arrest the human smugglers, while special investigation teams have been formed for the victims’ recovery. Officials say contacts with relevant foreign agencies are ongoing to trace the abducted youths.
On the other hand, FIA officials confirmed that two Pakistani citizens have safely reached the Pakistani embassy in Tehran. The two were identified as Talha and Shehzad, residents of Gau Passian in Lahore. Of the 12 missing youths, seven are from Lahore. Initial investigations indicate the smugglers moved the youths into Iran via Balochistan, assuring them they would be transferred to Italy via Turkey. The smugglers initially collected a few thousand dollars and promised to collect the rest after arrival in Europe.
After reaching Iran, the youths were taken hostage at unknown locations. Their families are now being demanded a ransom of $6,000 per person. FIA officials say all available resources are being used for the recovery of the missing youths and that there is continuous contact with Iranian authorities in this regard.

HRNW stresses that human trafficking and kidnapping for ransom are serious violations of human rights and national security. The state must ensure swift rescue operations, support for victims’ families, and strong prosecution of trafficking networks, while also addressing the root causes that drive irregular migration.
