London (HRNW): Health experts have warned that excessive use of mobile phones and other digital devices may have significant effects not only on the neck, spine, and eyesight but also on skin health, muscle strength, posture, and overall physical well-being.
According to specialists, prolonged use of smartphones with the head bent forward can lead to a condition commonly known as “tech neck,” which places additional strain on the neck and spine. Over time, this posture may increase the risk of damage to muscles, joints, and spinal discs, potentially resulting in chronic pain and reduced mobility.
Experts also note that continuous use of smartwatches may cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some individuals, particularly if the device is worn for extended periods without proper hygiene or adjustment.
Researchers further explain that spending long hours in front of digital screens can contribute to digital eye strain, while reduced physical activity associated with prolonged screen time may weaken grip strength, decrease overall fitness, and negatively affect body posture.
Studies have also linked excessive screen time among children to poorer development of fine motor skills and lower academic performance, highlighting the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between digital engagement and physical activities.
To reduce these risks, experts recommend holding mobile devices at eye level, taking regular breaks from screens, following the 20-20-20 rule for eye health, spending time outdoors each day, engaging in regular physical exercise, and incorporating more movement into daily routines to counter the potential health effects of prolonged digital device use.
