Islamabad (HRNW): Former Member of the National Assembly Sardar Akhtar Mengal has returned all salaries and allowances received during his tenure as a parliamentarian to the government treasury.

Sardar Akhtar Mengal submitted a cheque amounting to Rs7,892,725 to the National Assembly Secretariat for the return of his salary and related benefits. He also sent a formal letter to the Secretariat regarding the transfer of the amount.

In his letter, Sardar Akhtar Mengal stated that he was returning the salaries received for the period from 3 September 2024 to 11 February 2026. He said the total amount being returned was Rs7,892,725.

He further stated that after submitting his resignation in September 2024, he had not withdrawn any salary or allowance from his parliamentary bank account. He requested the National Assembly Secretariat to transfer the entire available amount from his parliamentary account back to the national treasury.

Sardar Akhtar Mengal said he remains committed to upholding the principles of integrity, accountability, and transparency in public service.

Sardar Akhtar Mengal had resigned from his National Assembly seat from NA-256 Khuzdar on 3 September 2024 as a protest against what he described as Parliament’s response to issues concerning Balochistan. His resignation was formally accepted by the Speaker of the National Assembly on 11 February 2026.

Political and social observers described the move as a significant example of financial transparency and accountability in public office, while emphasizing that such actions can contribute to strengthening public trust in elected representatives.
