KARACHI (HRNW) – The Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, has strongly demanded that the government provide genuine relief to the public by formally announcing a freeze on the price of petrol at Rs. 250 per liter for the next two years. He emphasized that the minor reduction of Rs. 22 in petrol prices is highly insufficient given the staggering inflation, asserting that a substantial reduction of at least Rs. 122 per liter is critically required to ease the financial burden on citizens.
The key highlights of the Jamaat-e-Islami chief’s public relief demand include:
Demand to Stabilize Prices for Two Years
-
Rs. 250 per Liter Cap: Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman stated that instead of subjecting the public to mental agony through frequent fluctuations in petroleum prices, the government should fix the petrol price at Rs. 250 per liter and commit to maintaining it at this level for the next two years.
-
Supporting the Public Economy: He maintained that such a decisive step would curb the wave of inflation, offer stability to the business community, and provide much-needed breathing space to the household budgets of ordinary citizens.
Genuine Relief Demands a Rs. 122 Reduction, Not Rs. 22
-
Inadequate Government Relief: Outrightly rejecting the marginal adjustments, the Jamaat-e-Islami Emir pointed out that the public is currently reeling under a severe economic crisis and backbreaking inflation, making a mere Rs. 22 reduction entirely meaningless.
-
Formula for Direct Relief: He demanded that the government slash the heavy burden of taxes levied on petroleum products and introduce a significant, clear reduction of at least Rs. 122 per liter to give the poor and middle-class segments actual financial reprieve.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman added that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue to serve as the voice of the marginalized across the country, fighting for their economic rights and holding the government accountable against anti-public decisions.
