Zelensky Warns Belarus Over Possible Role in Russia-Ukraine War as Border Tensions Rise

Kyiv (HRNW)- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again warned Belarus to avoid becoming involved in Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, while also highlighting increased suspicious activity along the shared border. According to international media reports, Zelensky stated in a video address shared on social media that Ukraine is closely monitoring developments in border regions with Belarus and is fully prepared to respond to any potential threats, reaffirming that Ukraine will take all necessary steps to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Ukrainian president had earlier cautioned that efforts could be made to draw Belarus into the conflict. It is recalled that Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, using Belarusian territory as a staging ground for its advance toward Kyiv, although Belarus has not officially entered the war. Zelensky further alleged that new military infrastructure, including roads and artillery positions, is being developed near the border area, while Ukraine has accused Russia of using locations inside Belarus for launching attacks to bypass Ukrainian defenses.

Meanwhile, hostilities continue across multiple Ukrainian cities. In Kherson, a drone strike on civilian transport reportedly killed at least two people, while explosions and attacks were also reported in Dnipro, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv. Ukrainian officials stated that energy infrastructure was also damaged in a separate drone attack, though power supply has since been restored. Ukraine further claimed it struck the Russian port of Tuapse for the fourth time in 16 days.

On the other hand, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces have made advances along the front line, including capturing a village in the Sumy region and gaining ground in Donetsk. Analysts warn that any deeper involvement of Belarus could further escalate regional instability, while intensified fighting continues to raise fears of wider conflict.
