Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump has announced that he will file a lawsuit against the British broadcasting organization BBC for between one and five billion dollars next week.
According to the World News Agency, President Trump made this announcement while talking to reporters on Air Force One.
This announcement came after the BBC apologized for editing a part of his January 6, 2021 speech as a mistake, but also said that there is no legal basis for President Trump’s allegations.
The BBC also admitted that its editing was wrong, which has also seriously damaged the reputation of the organization.
Lawyers for the British broadcasting organization said that the “BBC” had received a legal notice accusing it of damaging President Trump’s reputation and demanding an apology and payment of compensation by Friday.
The controversy began with the BBC’s edited video, which presented three different parts of Trump’s January 6 speech together.
The US president’s team argued that the editing gave the impression that President Trump was encouraging his supporters to attack Capitol Hill.
The controversy has plunged the BBC into its worst crisis and the organization’s director general Tim Davey and head of news Deborah Turns had to resign from their positions.
President Trump had called the BBC’s edited video interference in the electoral process in an interview, saying that the video was not only false but also malicious.
He described the BBC’s apology as inadequate, saying that the video clips were presented with a gap of about an hour but were connected as if they were one continuous inflammatory speech.
It should be remembered that upon receiving legal notice, the BBC chairman personally apologized to the White House and told British lawmakers that the decision was based on a mistake. British Culture Minister Lisa Nandy also called it the right and necessary step.
However, President Trump says he will speak to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the issue, who has supported the BBC’s institutional autonomy but has not openly expressed any bias.
