Iran Submits New Negotiation Terms to U.S. via Pakistan Mediation

ISLAMABAD / WASHINGTON (HRNW): Amidst heightened regional tensions, Iran has reportedly submitted a fresh diplomatic proposal to the United States through the mediation of Pakistan. This new development aims to break the month-long deadlock in negotiations, though the conditions set by Tehran have sparked intensive debate in Washington.

Reports indicate that following Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s diplomatic engagements and communication with Pakistani officials, a 10-point peace plan was relayed to the White House.

Key Terms of the Iranian Proposal:

  • Reopening the Strait of Hormuz: Iran has offered to relinquish its control over the Strait of Hormuz—a vital global oil chokepoint—and reopen it for international traffic, provided the U.S. immediately ends its naval blockade of Iranian ports.

  • Phased Negotiations: Tehran suggests deferring discussions on the nuclear program for the time being, proposing that the first phase of dialogue focus exclusively on a ceasefire and the restoration of maritime routes.

  • Lifting the Blockade: A central demand is for the U.S. and its allies to lift the wartime economic sanctions and the naval siege currently impacting the Iranian economy.

  • Pakistan as the Diplomatic Hub: Iran has specified that all preliminary negotiations be channeled through Pakistan, with the potential for high-level talks to be finalized in Islamabad.

U.S. Stance and President Trump’s Strategy:

U.S. President Donald Trump has convened an emergency meeting with his National Security team today, Monday, to deliberate on this proposal. White House sources have indicated the following:

  • No Compromise on Nuclear Ambitions: The U.S. has maintained that any permanent agreement must center on the total cessation of Iran’s nuclear weaponization capabilities.

  • The “Pressure” Plan: In recent statements, President Trump signaled a preference for maintaining the naval blockade to compel Iran into negotiating under U.S. terms. Addressing the Iranian leadership, he remarked, “If they want to talk, they should just call us.”

  • Diplomatic Recalibration: Previously, President Trump postponed the visits of special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan, citing a lack of flexibility in Iran’s initial stance.
