Woman Allegedly Killed in Islamabad After Rejecting Forced Marriage

Islamabad (HRNW) — A young woman was allegedly killed by her family in Islamabad after she refused to accept a marriage that had reportedly been arranged against her will.

The incident reportedly took place within the jurisdiction of Nilore Police Station, Islamabad.

According to the information available, Hina had allegedly been forced to marry a man identified as Naveed Hassan. She was reportedly unhappy with the marriage and had obtained khula through the court.

Reports state that on August 13, Hina’s father brought her from Lahore to Islamabad. He had allegedly reached an agreement with his daughter assuring her that she would not be harmed and brought her home on that understanding.

However, according to the allegations, shortly after she arrived at the family home, she was allegedly killed by members of her family.

The incident has raised serious concerns over forced marriage, violence against women, and the safety of women who seek to exercise their legal right to choose their marital status.

Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hina’s death and determine the responsibility of those involved.
