Karachi (HRNW) – A sessions court in Karachi has granted interim bail to the accused nominated in the Gul Plaza fire case, directing the adult suspects to submit surety bonds of PKR 500,000 each, while the juvenile accused has been ordered to furnish a surety bond of PKR 10,000.
The order was issued by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Aslam Sheikh during the hearing of the bail applications.
During the proceedings, counsel for the applicants argued that the accused had been financially devastated by the incident and were unable to arrange such substantial surety amounts. The defense also contended that the police had implicated them in an attempt to conceal the alleged negligence of government departments.
According to the applicants, they helped evacuate hundreds of people from the market after the fire broke out, while government emergency responders allegedly arrived late and lacked sufficient water and essential firefighting equipment to effectively control the blaze.
The case remains under investigation, and the court’s interim bail order does not determine the guilt or innocence of the accused. Further legal proceedings will continue in accordance with the law.
