Gas Shortage Raises Fears of CNG Shutdown and Impact on Power Generation

Islamabad, Pakistan (HRNW) —A severe gas shortage in the country has raised concerns over a possible suspension of supply to the Compressed Natural Gas sector and disruptions in electricity generation.

According to sources, only 80 MMCFD of gas is expected to be available for power plants across the country from next month (April), which may significantly affect electricity production.

Sources further stated that the 150 MMCFD gas supply provided in March, along with liquefied natural gas imports, is likely to be discontinued.

There are also indications that gas supply to the CNG sector may be completely halted, raising concerns for the transport sector and industrial operations.

Energy experts warn that if the gas supply situation does not improve, the country could face worsening electricity shortages and increased load shedding in the coming months.
