Tragedy in Mumbai: Family of Four Dies After Consuming Watermelon Following Biryani Meal

MUMBAI (HRNW): A heartbreaking incident of suspected food poisoning has claimed the lives of a couple and their two daughters in Mumbai, India. According to a report by NDTV, the family fell ill shortly after consuming watermelon following a biryani dinner.

The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Abdullah Abdul Qadir, his 35-year-old wife Nasreen, and their two daughters, 16-year-old Aisha and 13-year-old Zainab.


Timeline of the Incident:

  • Saturday Night: The family enjoyed a biryani meal along with other relatives.

  • 1:00 AM: Approximately two hours after dinner, the four family members consumed watermelon.

  • 5:00 AM: The family began experiencing severe symptoms, including continuous vomiting and acute diarrhea.

  • Medical Intervention: They initially sought help from a local doctor. However, as their condition rapidly deteriorated, they were rushed to a larger hospital for emergency care.

  • Fatal Outcome: Despite medical efforts, all four family members passed away during treatment.


Medical Observations & Investigation:

Dr. Zaid Qureshi, the physician who treated the family, confirmed that the patients presented with symptoms of severe gastrointestinal distress. The family members had mentioned eating watermelon late at night before the symptoms began.

While food poisoning is the suspected cause, local authorities have stated that a definitive cause of death will only be determined after the post-mortem examinations are completed. Samples of the food items consumed by the family may also be sent for forensic analysis to identify any potential toxins or chemical contamination.
