Punjab Police to Introduce Smart Surveillance Vans for Highway Monitoring and Traffic Enforcement

Lahore (HRNW)- The Punjab Police have decided to introduce smart surveillance vehicles on highways across the province to identify fake number plates, e-challan defaulters, and illegal advertisers. According to police officials in Lahore, the “Police iSmart Van” project is in its final stages and will be used for automatic monitoring on highways and public places. Each van will be equipped with a 360-degree camera system capable of instantly detecting violator vehicles and unlawful advertising activity while in motion.

Officials said the smart vans will be integrated with Safe City systems to generate real-time alerts. Vehicles and individuals coming within a 100-meter range will be automatically identified, while overloaded vehicles will also be flagged immediately. The project will use electric vehicles to reduce fuel costs, and the first unit is expected to be ready next week for presentation to the Chief Minister of Punjab for approval. The system is being developed under the supervision of Additional IG Logistics and Procurement Fawaduddin Qureshi.

After approval, one to three smart vans will be deployed in each district, starting with model roads in Lahore. Each unit is estimated to cost around Rs. 11 million, including equipment. Authorities believe the initiative will significantly improve traffic management and help in taking action against violators.
