Chhattisgarh (HRNW)- A passenger train in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh collided with a stationary freight train near a station.
According to Indian media, several coaches of the passenger train derailed in this horrific accident and the air was filled with the screams of passengers.
The rescue team cut the coach and rescued the passengers trapped inside. So far, 5 bodies have been recovered, while several injured have been shifted to hospital.
Indian authorities have expressed concern that the death toll in the accident is likely to increase as the condition of 4 injured is critical.
After the accident, the railway track and signal system were severely damaged, due to which the departure of trains on the relevant rail routes was suspended.
Initial investigations have shown that the cause of the accident may be a malfunction of the signals, due to which the high-speed train collided with the stationary freight train on the track.
However, an investigation committee was formed to find out the concrete cause of the accident, but so far no inquiry committee formed in India has proved fruitful.
