Lahore High Court Petitioned Against Recent Surge in Petroleum Prices

LAHORE (HRNW): A miscellaneous petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the recent and unprecedented hike in petroleum prices. The petition, moved by Advocate Azhar Siddique on behalf of the Judicial Activism Panel, contends that the government’s decision to significantly increase fuel rates is both illegal and anti-people in nature. The petitioner argues that such an extraordinary surge will trigger a massive wave of inflation across the transport, electricity, and agricultural sectors, directly impacting the prices of essential food items and the daily survival of common citizens. The court has been urged to declare the recent price hike null and void and to issue immediate directives to the federal government to provide financial relief to the public. Legal experts suggest that the petition highlights the growing friction between executive fiscal policies and the fundamental economic rights of the population, as the judiciary is once again called upon to review the mechanism of fuel pricing in the country.
