Karachi (HRNW) — An Additional District and Sessions Court South has announced its verdict in the case involving the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old female student by a school janitor, acquitting the accused, Saleem Masih.
According to the prosecution, the 10-year-old student went to a washroom on the third floor of the school in May 2024, where Saleem allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The court observed that the prosecution failed to prove the charges against the accused. Saleem Masih was acquitted due to insufficient evidence and contradictions in the statements of witnesses, according to the court.
A case against the accused had been registered at Kalri Police Station.
The case highlights serious human rights concerns surrounding child protection, the safety of children in educational institutions and the need for effective safeguards against sexual abuse.
