Karachi (HRNW) — The Sindh High Court has heard a petition challenging alleged delaying tactics by the accused in the trial of the Mustafa Amir murder case.
The trial court submitted its report to the Sindh High Court regarding the progress of the proceedings. According to the report, accused Armaghan and his lawyer, Khurram Abbas, were responsible for delays in the trial.
The Sindh High Court found the reasons cited for the delay unsatisfactory and directed the Anti-Terrorism Court to complete the trial of the Mustafa Amir murder case as soon as possible in accordance with the law.
The court issued notices to accused Armaghan and Shiraz and sought their responses by September 23.
Counsel for the complainant, Iftikhar Shah, told the court that the accused had allegedly been using various excuses and delaying tactics to prolong the trial. He requested the court to direct the trial court to conclude the proceedings at the earliest.
The delay in a serious criminal case raises important concerns regarding the victim’s family’s right to timely justice, due process and an effective judicial remedy. The High Court’s direction to expedite the trial underscores the importance of ensuring that criminal proceedings are not unnecessarily prolonged.
