Students Develop Mobile App to Help Electric Bus Passengers with Routes and Timings

Lahore (HRNW)- Passengers using the Punjab government’s electric bus service in various cities, including Lahore, have long faced difficulties due to a lack of clear information about routes and operating schedules. Addressing this issue, two students have developed a mobile application to provide real-time guidance to commuters.

One of the developers, Muhammad Ghiyas, said the idea came after he waited nearly half an hour at a bus stop, only to later discover that the last bus on his route had already departed. Following this experience, he and his colleague decided to create a system to help passengers avoid such inconvenience.

According to Ghiyas, the app provides detailed information on electric bus routes, stops, and departure timings. It also sends instant notifications to users in case of any changes in schedules. The data used in the app has been collected from publicly available sources and organized in a simple and user-friendly manner.

A key feature of the app is that it works even without an internet connection, making it highly accessible for daily commuters. Although the app has not yet been officially launched on the Play Store, it is currently available through a website.

Ghiyas added that when the app was introduced on Instagram, it received significant attention, with over 50,000 views within two days and more than 500 downloads.

The initiative highlights how young innovators are using technology to solve everyday public transport challenges.
