Korangi Residents Question Spending on Flower Exhibition Amid Lack of Basic Facilities

Karachi (HRNW)- A flower exhibition and fair organized in Korangi, Karachi, under the supervision of District Chairman Naeem Ahmed Sheikh featured motorcycles, Umrah tickets, prizes worth millions of rupees, and musical performances. However, local residents criticized the event, saying that such activities are merely symbolic while basic civic problems in Karachi’s Korangi area remain unresolved. Citizens pointed to the continued shortage of clean drinking water, irregular gas supply, electricity issues, damaged roads, overflowing sewerage lines, inadequate hospital facilities, and poor educational standards. Public circles questioned why significant funds are spent on exhibitions, banners, and entertainment instead of providing Ramadan rations for orphans, support for widows, Eid clothes for poor children, employment opportunities, better education, healthcare, and infrastructure development. Residents emphasized that concerts, prizes, and decorative events cannot solve everyday hardships, urging authorities to focus on real development and provision of essential services so that the promise of “bread, clothing, and shelter” becomes a reality.
