KARACHI (HRNW): Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the Korangi-Landhi Flyover constructed on 12,000 Road in Korangi No. 5. The completion of the 515-metre-long flyover is expected to improve traffic flow between Korangi, Landhi and adjoining industrial areas and provide relief to citizens facing difficulties in commuting. The project was completed at a cost of Rs746.628 million, while 100 per cent physical work on the project had been completed by August 2026. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that the vision of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari was to serve the people, and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and his entire team were working day and night to realise this vision. He said that working on major development projects was not a favour to the people, but serving the public was the responsibility of the government. He said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was committed to serving the people and the Sindh government was undertaking development works across Karachi and the province in line with this commitment. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the Sindh government was also taking significant steps in the health sector and was the largest donor to Indus Hospital. He added that a major autism centre was being constructed in the Shahrah-e-Bhutto area of Korangi, which would be named “Inclusive City”. The provincial minister said that funds had been provided by the Sindh chief minister on the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to improve basic infrastructure in industrial areas. He said industrialists and owners of industrial areas were respected and the government was striving to provide better infrastructure to industries to promote industrial activity and create employment opportunities. He said a total of Rs4 billion had been provided for the Korangi and Landhi industrial areas, with Rs2 billion allocated for each area. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had given the slogan of “Roti, Kapra aur Makan”, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was carrying forward the same philosophy of public service. He said the Pakistan Peoples Party believed in taking everyone along and this was the basic objective of its manifesto. He said the Sindh chief minister and Karachi mayor also visited different areas of Karachi late at night without media coverage or unnecessary protocol to directly assess the ground situation and take measures for resolving public issues. Speaking on the occasion, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the time for making anyone a “mamu” or a “murgha” in Karachi was over and now it was time only for work, adding that people could see development works taking place in the city with their own eyes. He said extensive development activities were continuing in Karachi under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party. He said whenever PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met them, he always asked what development work was being carried out for the people, and questioned the chief minister and every representative about public service and development projects. Murtaza Wahab said Korangi was a district where the Muttahida Qaumi Movement had enjoyed political influence in the past, but today major development projects were being completed in the same area by the PPP government. He said thousands of roads had been constructed and improved in Korangi, while important projects including Korangi Causeway, Taj Haider Flyover, Korangi 2.5 Bridge, Azim Purah Flyover and now the Korangi-Landhi Flyover had been completed. He added that Shahrah-e-Bhutto was also commencing from Korangi. The mayor said development works worth Rs4 billion were being carried out in the Korangi and Landhi industrial areas, with Rs2 billion allocated for each industrial area, which would improve industrial infrastructure and promote business and industrial activities. He said the Sindh government’s objective was not merely to make announcements but to deliver through practical work. He said the journey of Karachi’s development would continue under the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party and the city would be made better, more beautiful and modern. The mayor, while highlighting the Sindh government’s initiatives in the health sector, said other provinces talked about their measures regarding autism, but Sindh had started work on establishing an autism centre four years ago. He added that the Sindh Institute of Child Health had a facility of more than 100 ventilators. He said development projects were not limited to the construction of roads and bridges, but were aimed at providing better travelling facilities to citizens, connecting different areas and promoting economic activities. According to details, the Landhi Flyover constructed on 12,000 Road in Korangi No. 5 is 515 metres long. The bridge itself is 240 metres long and 7.5 metres wide, while the up-ramp is 156 metres and the down-ramp is 119 metres long. The project, completed under the Sindh government’s Works and Services Department, has recorded 97.24 per cent financial progress, while the physical work has been completed in full. The completion of the flyover is expected to improve traffic flow in Korangi, Landhi and the industrial areas, facilitate commuters and reduce traffic pressure on busy roads. Improvement in roads and traffic infrastructure in the industrial areas is also expected to reduce commuting problems and promote industrial and commercial activities as well as employment opportunities.
