Islamabad (HRNW): The Senate Standing Committee on Interior has approved a bill proposing the provision of free official (Blue) passports to former members of Parliament, their spouses, and dependent children.
According to details, during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior, the “Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances) Amendment Act 2026” was presented by Senator Abdul Qadir, which was approved by the committee.
The proposed amendment states that former members of Parliament will be entitled to receive official (Blue) passports free of cost.
According to the text of the bill, the spouses of former parliamentarians will also be eligible for free Blue passports, while dependent children under the age of 28 years will also qualify for the facility.
The proposal is expected to generate public discussion regarding government privileges, use of public resources, and the scope of benefits available to former public representatives.
Governance experts emphasize that any legislation related to state-funded facilities and privileges should be evaluated through the principles of transparency, accountability, financial impact assessment, and public interest.
