Karachi (HRNW): The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Advocate General Sindh and the Prosecutor General Sindh after a petition was filed by Jackson Police Station SHO Inayatullah Khan, alleging an organized defamation campaign against him by certain individuals associated with social media and print media.
The court directed the respondents to submit their replies by 14 September.
According to the petition, Jackson Police, acting on the directives of the Sindh High Court and senior police authorities, has been conducting operations against alleged drug traffickers in its jurisdiction. The petitioner claims that, in response to these actions, certain individuals described in the petition as “so-called journalists,” along with members of the alleged drug mafia, launched a false and fabricated campaign against the police.
The petition further alleges that misleading and false reports were circulated through various WhatsApp groups and other social media platforms, resulting in the initiation of an inquiry against the petitioner and other police officials by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South.
The petitioner has requested the court to restrain the DIG South from taking further action against him until the matter is decided, arguing that he is being subjected to harassment and pressure because of the anti-narcotics operations.
Legal experts note that the allegations contained in the petition remain unproven and will be examined through the judicial process after all concerned parties have submitted their responses. They also emphasize that both freedom of expression and the protection of the reputation and integrity of public institutions should be upheld in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
