No Forced Acquisition of Private Land Under New Telecom Bill, Says IT Minister

Islamabad (HRNW): Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja has clarified that the proposed Telecom Bill does not authorize the forced acquisition or occupation of any citizen’s private land or property.

Addressing a joint press conference alongside Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Shaza Fatima said the primary objective of the proposed legislation is to facilitate the expansion of high-speed, reliable internet services across Pakistan.

She emphasized that it was important to take both the public and Parliament into confidence regarding the proposed bill, explaining that the existing telecommunications law no longer meets the country’s current technological and digital requirements.

The minister further stated that improving Pakistan’s digital infrastructure is a key priority under the Prime Minister’s Digital Pakistan Vision, adding that the proposed legislation is intended to support the development of modern telecommunications networks and enhance nationwide digital connectivity.
