Karachi (HRNW): A new development has emerged in the Gul Plaza tragedy case, as accused Tanveer Pasta and other co-accused have challenged the police investigation before the City Court in Karachi.
The petition was filed through advocates Sheikh Javed Mir, Mahmood War, and Samreen Ehtesham. The applicants have requested the court to either include the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and the Fire Brigade as accused parties or order a fresh investigation into the case.
The petition further seeks the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) comprising representatives of sensitive and relevant government agencies to conduct a reinvestigation.
According to the petition, the police investigation allegedly attempted to shield government institutions by overlooking their alleged negligence in connection with the incident.
Counsel for the petitioners, Sheikh Javed Mir, also argued that naming 11-year-old Huzaifa as an accused alongside the other defendants is contrary to the law. The petition requests that the minor’s case be separated from the main proceedings and dealt with independently in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
The City Court is expected to hear the petition and determine whether the investigation should be reopened or additional parties included in the case.
