Sindh High Court Reserves Verdict on Police Recruitment Under Shaheed Quota

Karachi (HRNW) – The Sindh High Court has reserved its judgment on a petition challenging the alleged discriminatory recruitment practices within the Sindh Police under the Shaheed Quota. The petition was heard by a constitutional bench of the high court.

The petitioner, Tariq Khan, informed the court that he was recruited as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in 2016 under the martyr’s quota. However, he pointed out that subsequently, other individuals were appointed directly to the ranks of Inspector and even higher positions under the same quota. He argued that this constitutes clear discrimination and demanded that he either be promoted to a higher rank or that the other “preferential” appointments be reviewed.

During the proceedings:

  • Government Stance: The Additional Advocate General stated that the petitioner’s own appointment appeared technically flawed, noting that ASI recruitments are typically processed through a commission.

  • Judicial Observation: The court remarked to the petitioner, “Why are you putting your own job at risk?” while suggesting that a high-level committee, headed by the Additional IG, could be formed to re-evaluate the matter.

After hearing the final arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision.
