Iran Calls US Sanctions ‘Economic Terrorism,’ Araqchi Warns of Global Impact

Tehran (HRNW)- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has strongly criticized US economic sanctions against Iran, describing Washington’s policy of economic pressure as “economic terrorism” and warning that it could threaten the global economy and the sovereignty of countries.

Araqchi, responding to recent statements by US President Donald Trump, said the US strategy of imposing economic pressure and sanctions on Tehran has repeatedly failed to achieve its objectives. He argued that continuing such policies would only lead to further failures and could negatively affect international trade, energy markets and global supply chains.

In a statement on X, Araqchi also referred to a New York Times report concerning US national debt, claiming that Washington is using aggressive economic measures against Iran to divert attention from its own economic challenges. He described the latest US measures as a continuation of what he called a failed policy of economic confrontation.

The Iranian foreign minister’s remarks come as the Trump administration has intensified economic pressure on Tehran and warned countries and entities that continue financial, commercial or logistical cooperation with Iran that they could face severe consequences. Tehran has rejected the policy and accused Washington of attempting to isolate Iran from the global financial system.
