Karachi (HRNW) — The newly appointed investigating officer in the Mir Raza murder case, Siraj Lashari, appeared before the court, while the complainant, Mir Hassan, also attended the hearing along with his lawyer Jibran Nasir.
Investigating Officer Siraj Lashari told the court that, according to the case record, Muhammad Ahmed’s statement had been recorded as that of a witness.
Muhammad Ahmed told the court that he had appeared whenever police summoned him. He complained that police sometimes kept him waiting for several hours. He said he had also appeared before investigators on August 13 after being summoned.
The court directed Muhammad Ahmed to appear whenever called by police. The court further instructed him not to change his residence or leave the city without informing the police, noting that he was currently on interim bail.
Counsel for the complainant said Muhammad Ahmed’s statement had been recorded as a witness and argued that his status could potentially change from witness to accused depending on the outcome of the bail proceedings.
The court expressed concern over the slow pace of the investigation, observing that the victim’s father, family and people in the city were distressed and that, since a person had been killed, investigators must thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the facts to light.
Siraj Lashari told the court that he had been assigned the investigation on August 13. He said investigators were questioning approximately 35 people who had been in contact with Mir Raza.
According to the investigating officer, people who were in contact with Mir Raza on the day of the incident were specifically summoned on the basis of call-record data. He confirmed that Muhammad Ahmed and Mir Raza had spoken to each other.
The investigating officer further informed the court that no suspect has so far been identified as an accused, and no person has been formally nominated as an accused in the case.
