KARACHI (HRNW): The President of the Dumper Association, Haji Liaquat Mehsud, has expressed intense anger over the recent record-breaking surge in petroleum prices, accusing the government of “rubbing salt into the wounds” of the public rather than providing relief.
Condemnation of “Anti-People” Economic Policies
In a strongly worded statement, Haji Liaquat Mehsud characterized the frequent hikes in petrol and diesel prices as a direct attempt to “strangle the poor.”
-
Economic Impact: He emphasized that the sudden increase is not merely a fiscal adjustment but a hostile act against the common man and the transport industry.
-
Operational Strain: The rise in high-speed diesel prices has made the operation of heavy machinery and dumpers financially unviable, threatening the livelihoods of thousands of workers in the construction and logistics sectors.
Ultimatum to the Government
The Dumper Association chief issued a clear warning to the federal authorities regarding the potential fallout of these pricing decisions:
-
Immediate Reversal Demanded: Mehsud called for an urgent reduction in petroleum rates to prevent a complete shutdown of transport services.
-
Protest Threat: He stated that if the government fails to provide relief, the Dumper Association will be forced to launch a nationwide protest movement.
-
Government Responsibility: “The responsibility for any disruption caused by our protests will rest solely with the government,” Mehsud declared.
The statement adds to the growing wave of domestic opposition, joining recent calls for strikes by the Oil Tanker Contractors Association and political protests by Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI.
