Road Cave-In Near Tariq Road Shopping Mall: Woman Rescued After Car Plunges into Sinkhole

KARACHI (HRNW): A dramatic incident occurred in the bustling commercial hub of Tariq Road, Karachi, when a section of the road suddenly collapsed near a prominent shopping mall, swallowing a passenger car. A woman was inside the vehicle at the time of the cave-in.

Rescue Operation and Immediate Response

Upon receiving reports of the incident, Karachi Police and emergency services rushed to the scene to initiate a rescue operation.

  • Safe Extraction: The woman trapped inside the vehicle was successfully rescued and pulled to safety. Fortunately, she remained uninjured despite the sudden and terrifying nature of the accident.

  • Vehicle Status: The car plunged several feet into the sinkhole, with more than half of the vehicle submerged in what appeared to be accumulated sewerage or underground water.

  • Cordoning the Area: To prevent further accidents, police have established safety barriers around the affected site. Traffic has been diverted to alternative routes to alleviate congestion on the busy thoroughfare.

Investigation into Infrastructure Failure

Relevant municipal authorities and the Water and Sewerage Corporation have been notified to determine the exact cause of the road collapse.

Initial observations suggest that a leaking underground water or sewerage line may have eroded the soil beneath the asphalt, leading to the sudden structural failure. Authorities have been urged to begin repair work immediately to restore one of the city’s most critical commercial arteries.

Police and rescue teams remain on-site to monitor the situation and ensure public safety until the vehicle is extricated and the road is stabilized.
