Karachi (HRNW)- The Sindh government has taken a major step towards the promotion of modern transport and technology by signing an important agreement for the EV (Electric Vehicle) Taxi Project.
Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon signed the agreement with Sindh Bank, Sindh Development Fund (SDF), and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority, aiming to promote environment-friendly transport across the province.
Under this agreement, an EV taxi service will be introduced in Sindh, which will not only improve urban transport facilities but also create new employment opportunities for the youth.
Addressing the ceremony, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government is fulfilling its promises made to the youth and is committed to providing employment opportunities across the province.
He added that several groundbreaking projects in the transport sector have been introduced in Sindh, including the Pink Bus service for women, which ensures safe travel for female passengers, as well as the launch of EV buses, described as a unique initiative.
Sharjeel Memon said these projects are part of the vision of President Asif Ali Zardari and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and that Sindh has taken a leadership role in modern transport reforms.
He highlighted that the Pink Bus service includes female drivers and conductors, which has received appreciation internationally, while EV buses and Pink EV Scooties were introduced for the first time in Pakistan.
He further stated that these initiatives are designed to empower women and create a safe environment for them to actively participate in society.
Speaking about women empowerment, he said that when the Pink Scooties scheme started, only 150 women had licenses, whereas now 20,000 women have applied, and the government is also providing free training.
Sharjeel Memon added that the Pink EV Taxi project aims to further enhance women’s safety and confidence in public transport.
He also said that the government is considering the establishment of an EV vehicle manufacturing plant in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone and encouraged industrialists to invest in this sector.
