Islamabad (HRNW)- The nation is observing the 13th death anniversary of Air Commodore Muhammad Mahmood Alam (MM Alam), who passed away on March 18, 2013, after a prolonged illness. Across the country, tribute is being paid to the legendary war hero for his extraordinary courage and unmatched achievements in aerial combat.
During the Indo-Pak War of 1965, MM Alam made history on the Sargodha front by shooting down five Indian Hunter aircraft in just 60 seconds, including four within the first 30 seconds—an achievement that remains a world record in combat aviation history.
Flying the F-86 Sabre aircraft during the mission, MM Alam demonstrated exceptional skill and bravery. Over the course of the war, he downed a total of 11 enemy aircraft, with nine confirmed destroyed and two damaged. In recognition of his remarkable success, 11 Indian flags were painted on his aircraft.
His unparalleled courage and dedication to the nation earned him the prestigious Sitara-e-Jurat (Star of Courage). MM Alam is laid to rest at the Martyrs’ Cemetery at PAF Base Masroor, Maripur, where he continues to be remembered as a symbol of patriotism and valor.
Various ceremonies are being held nationwide to honor his legacy, with citizens and officials alike remembering him as a national hero who made the impossible possible.
