FBR Orders Faster Sales Tax Registration for Low-Risk Applicants

Islamabad (HRNW)- The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed its Inland Revenue authorities to expedite sales tax registration for low-risk applicants and, where possible, complete the process within three working days.

Under Sales Tax General Order No. 20 of 2026, applications will be processed according to computerized risk parameters. Complete applications classified as low-risk will be given priority, while additional documents will only be requested when legally required.

The FBR has instructed registration offices not to keep applications pending without a specific reason. If an application is incomplete, applicants must be informed through the computerized system within seven days, with clear details of the missing information, deficiency and required corrective action.

The FBR has also allowed relevant sectoral associations representing manufacturers to provide electronic pre-registration certification to help verify genuine manufacturing businesses. However, the certification will not replace any statutory requirement or provide an exemption from sales tax obligations.

High-risk or suspicious applications may still undergo additional verification under the law. The FBR has directed all Chief Commissioners and Commissioners Inland Revenue to ensure strict implementation of the new order.
