Isfahan, Iran (HRNW) — Iran is preparing to launch what officials describe as one of the world’s largest solar power projects, with the foundation stone for a 5,000-megawatt solar power plant expected to be laid soon in Isfahan Province.
According to the Isfahan Governorate, the project is expected to significantly expand Iran’s renewable energy capacity and contribute substantially to the country’s electricity supply.
Officials say the project could provide electricity equivalent to the monthly consumption needs of approximately 10 percent of Iran’s population.
The development comes as countries including China and India continue to host some of the world’s largest solar power facilities, reflecting the rapid expansion of large-scale renewable energy projects globally.
If completed as planned, the Iranian project would represent a major step in the country’s efforts to increase solar generation and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.
