Slovakia Temporarily Suspends New Visa Applications from Russian Citizens

Bratislava (HRNW)- The Slovak government has announced the temporary suspension of new visa applications from Russian citizens, citing national security concerns and alignment with the European Union’s common security policy.

According to media reports, Slovak authorities said the measure was introduced in response to growing security concerns related to Russia and in line with broader EU policies.

Under the new decision, new visa applications from Russian nationals will not be accepted for the time being. However, separate procedures may remain available for certain categories, including humanitarian cases, close family members, and other exceptional circumstances.

The move comes as the European Union continues to tighten visa regulations for Russian citizens. The EU visa facilitation agreement with Russia was suspended in 2022, and additional restrictions were later imposed on the issuance of multiple-entry visas, making the application process more stringent and time-consuming.

Slovakia said the decision is intended to safeguard national security and ensure stricter scrutiny of visa applications under the Schengen visa system.
