Islamabad (HRNW)- The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has observed in its written order on petitions challenging the alleged solitary confinement of PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi that serious allegations of unlawful treatment and solitary confinement in prison cannot be ignored.
Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro issued a 10-page written order on petitions filed by Aleema Khanum and Mubashara Manika. The order stated that the petitions contain serious allegations regarding solitary confinement and unlawful treatment in prison.
The court observed that such allegations cannot be ignored or dismissed without issuing notice to the respondents or obtaining a report from the jail authorities.
According to the written order, the available record shows that the PTI founder was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment, with simple imprisonment in default of payment of a fine, but neither the PTI founder nor Bushra Bibi was sentenced to solitary confinement.
During the proceedings, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor argued that the allegations of solitary confinement were false and claimed they had been made for political purposes.
The Islamabad High Court directed the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to submit a detailed factual report regarding the allegations of solitary confinement of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi.
