ISLAMABAD (HRNW): A performance report for March 2026 released by the Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) has unveiled alarming findings regarding the hygiene and quality standards of restaurants, shops, and food points in the federal capital. The data suggests a near-total failure of food outlets to meet the prescribed safety and quality benchmarks.
March 2026 Inspection Data: A Grim Reality
Between March 1 and March 31, 2026, IFA Food Safety teams conducted rigorous inspections across various sectors of Islamabad. The results of the 1,618 food points visited are as follows:

Compliance Rate: Out of 1,618 outlets, only 1 was found to be fully compliant with quality standards.

Non-Compliance: An overwhelming 1,617 units were found to be substandard or in violation of health regulations.

Enforcement Actions: * Units Sealed: 24 units were immediately sealed due to severe health violations.

Fines Imposed: Financial penalties were levied at 08 locations.

Legal Action: FIRs (First Information Reports) were registered against 04 individuals for criminal negligence.

720 outlets received formal Improvement Notices.

865 outlets were issued verbal instructions for minor rectifications.

Sampling and Licensing: 58 food samples were collected for laboratory testing, while 205 new licenses were issued during the month.
Authority’s Stance on Food Safety
A spokesperson for the Islamabad Food Authority stated that the department remains steadfast in its mission to ensure the provision of safe and high-quality food to citizens. The spokesperson emphasized that no negligence will be tolerated when it comes to public health.
“We are operating under a zero-tolerance policy,” the spokesperson added. “Continuous monitoring and crackdowns will persist until every food establishment in the capital strictly adheres to the mandated safety protocols.”
