Israeli Defense Minister Warns of Gaza-Style Destruction in Southern Lebanon Amid Hezbollah Attacks

Beirut (HRNW) – Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has announced plans to destroy all homes in Lebanese villages near the border and establish a security buffer zone up to the Litani River, warning that 600,000 displaced residents will not be allowed to return until northern Israel is secure. Katz vowed to eliminate Hezbollah’s special Radwan fighters and destroy all weapons in the area.

The announcement comes as Hezbollah has carried out 5,000 drone and missile attacks against Israel since the conflict escalated on March 2, leaving over 1,247 people dead in Lebanon, including children and medical personnel, while more than 1.2 million have been displaced.

The Israeli army has also launched a new wave of attacks targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Beirut’s suburbs. This marks the second major conflict between Israel and Hezbollah since 2024, with both sides suffering significant casualties.
