Lahore (HRNW)- According to the Secretary General of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan, the Shawwal-ul-Mukarram moon is unlikely to be sighted on the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2026, making Saturday, March 21, 2026, the expected date for Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan after the completion of 30 days of fasting.
The Secretary General stated that the new moon will be born on March 19 at 6:23 am, but at sunset on the 29th of Ramadan, the moon’s age will be less than 13 hours, whereas at least 19 hours are required for visibility, making sighting highly unlikely.
It was further explained that the time difference between sunset and moonset will be around 26 minutes in Karachi and 30 minutes in Peshawar, while a minimum of 40 minutes is generally needed for moon sighting.
Based on these astronomical calculations, the committee has indicated that the Shawwal moon will not be visible, and Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be celebrated nationwide on March 21, 2026.
