Turkey Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Afghan Migrants, 24 Arrested While Attempting to Reach Europe

Ankara (HRNW)- Crackdowns against illegal Afghan migrants are ongoing in various countries around the world, while a new wave of arrests has begun in Turkey.

Human trafficking of Afghans into Europe has emerged as a major security challenge.

According to the Afghan magazine Afghan International, Turkish authorities arrested 24 Afghan nationals for allegedly attempting to travel illegally from Turkey to Europe. Those detained in the Turkish city of Edirne included 7 women and 6 children.

According to Afghan media, Turkish police also arrested a bus driver accused of illegally transporting Afghan citizens. The Turkish Migration Agency stated that 16,436 Afghans without valid residence permits were detained during the first five months of this year.

It is noteworthy that two days earlier, Polish authorities also arrested 15 Afghan nationals who had entered the country illegally.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has attributed the continued illegal migration of Afghans to the Taliban regime’s harsh policies and retaliatory actions. The recent arrests reflect that countries around the world are increasingly tightening measures against illegal migration.
