First Woman Appointed to Dispute Resolution Council in Upper South Waziristan

Peshawar (HRNW)- In a historic first, a woman has been appointed as a member of the Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) in Upper South Waziristan, marking a significant step toward improving women’s representation and access to justice in the region.

The appointment of social activist Razia Mehsud is being hailed as a positive example of expanding the role of women in the tribal districts.

According to a notification issued by the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ismail Khan Region, a 17-member Dispute Resolution Council was constituted on the recommendation of District Police Officer (DPO) Upper South Waziristan Arshad Khan, with a woman included in the council for the first time.

Local social and tribal leaders said that Razia Mehsud’s inclusion will help ensure more effective resolution of disputes involving women, improve the identification of their issues, and facilitate easier access to the justice system.

They added that the move is expected to boost women’s confidence and strengthen their participation in community decision-making processes.

Public representatives, social activists, and tribal elders welcomed the decision, describing it as an important milestone for promoting gender inclusion and enhancing women’s representation in social and administrative affairs, not only in Upper South Waziristan but across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
