Washington (HRNW)- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that the United States wants China to play a more active role in pressuring Iran to change its current stance and reduce tensions in the Gulf region.
According to media reports, Rubio stated in an interview that Washington hopes Beijing will help persuade Tehran to de-escalate tensions in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasized that regional instability poses a serious threat to global energy security.
Rubio added that disruption in the Strait of Hormuz would particularly affect Asian economies, especially China, which heavily depends on energy imports from the Middle East. He warned that continued instability could have wide-ranging consequences for global trade and oil supplies.
The statement comes amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran, with maritime security and oil supply routes in the Gulf remaining a key focus of international concern.
