Islamabad (HRNW)- Interesting remarks surfaced during the hearing of a petition related to the sighting of the Eid moon in the High Court.
The case was heard by Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar, who took up a petition seeking an announcement of Eid immediately after moon sighting. The petitioner, Abdullah Shafiq, appeared before the court in his personal capacity.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice asked whether the court notice had caused any inconvenience, to which the petitioner replied in the negative. Abdullah Shafiq argued that the moon-sighting machine was positioned upside down and stated that he had a video saved on his mobile phone to support his claim.
He further submitted that Eid should have been observed on Friday, but the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced it for Saturday instead. In response, the Chief Justice asked whether any actual harm had been caused due to the alleged issue with the machine. The petitioner referred to a Hadith and requested that the matter be decided for future guidance, also noting that the Religious Affairs Department had not yet submitted its response.
The Chief Justice directed the petitioner to provide the relevant details of the Hadith to the court. Later, the court accepted the request and disposed of the petition.
