London (HRNW)- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stepped down after serving as Prime Minister for two years, bringing an end to a tenure marked by ambitious reforms, economic challenges and significant political change.
Keir Starmer assumed office following the Labour Party’s historic victory in the UK general election of July 2024, ending 14 years of Conservative Party rule under then-Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Under Starmer’s leadership, Labour secured a commanding parliamentary majority and returned to power with promises to revive the economy, reform the National Health Service (NHS), tackle inflation and improve government transparency.
During his time in office, Starmer’s government introduced measures aimed at reforming public spending and taxation, reducing healthcare waiting times and promoting investment in clean energy and green industries. His administration also pursued efforts to strengthen relations with European countries and introduced new policies on illegal immigration and border security.
However, the government faced considerable challenges, including sluggish economic growth, rising public debt, inflationary pressures, labor strikes, housing shortages and complex international security issues.
While Starmer initially enjoyed strong public support, criticism grew over economic difficulties, budgetary decisions and several controversial policy reforms. Opposition parties frequently accused his government of failing to fully deliver on key election promises.
Political analysts generally describe Starmer as a moderate and pragmatic politician. His most notable achievement is widely regarded as restoring the Labour Party to power and re-establishing it as the dominant force in British politics after more than a decade in opposition.
